Successful Rain for Africa Developers Week creates new advisories for farmers
In April 2019, the 4th and last Rain for Africa Developers Week (R4A) took place at the HydroLogic offices in the Netherlands.
During the Developers week, colleagues of the Agricultural Research Council (ARC), South African Weather Service (SAWS), Inkomati-Usuthu CMA (IUCMA), Weather Impact and HydroLogic have been working together on the configuration of new weather-related advisories to assist farmers in determining the best dates for planting, reducing the risks for milk production and reducing heat stress for broilers. These advisories are made available via the AgriCloud Portal. Within 1 week more than 10 new advisories were implemented that will greatly support farmers in optimizing their farming management activities.
The Rain4Africa project aims to reach 125 000 small scale farmers with easy-to-understand advisories via the AgriCloud App and Portal in order to reduce weather and climate related risks and increase food production.
